136 Sqn Newsletter

January 2021

Hi [subscriber:firstname | default:reader],

The past few weeks have been busy for us again. We have continued to be available to provide support to Cadets during the latest Lockdown, and we have been making sure we can continue to provide Virtual Parade Nights to keep the wheels turning. We will continue to operate under the new regulations, and as soon as things change we will let you know. In the meantime, have a look at what we have been up to.

COVID-19 Update

The RAF Air Cadets has Cadet and Staff safety at the core of everything it does. As we continue through this challenging time, the Squadron continues to operate in Virtual Parade format. Parade nights continue to be accessible via Cadet Portal and through MS Teams. As, and when, things change we will let everyone know through the Newsletter, e-mails and parade updates to make sure everyone is informed and we can return in a safe and supportive manner.

Missing ATC Sunday 2021

This year, RAF Air Cadets up and down the country missed-out on attending the annual celebrate of the corps and the work we do. We missed the joy of this experience because of COVID-19 and the continuing lockdown around England and the United Kingdom. Although we weren't able to enjoy this celebration in person, many of us celebrated quietly …

1st Class
After returning from the Christmas break, we have been working through classification content to support cadets in securing these upgrades. Our Junior Classification Cadets have been working with CI Harrison to complete their learning, and the Leading, Senior and Master Cadets have been working with CI McCann to work through the Air Navigation module. As ever, the training platform exists to support cadets with these lessons and learning. If you cannot access the platform, please let a member of the Adult Team know. This site is being moved over the next couple of weeks, but we will try to avoid any downtime.
Whilst Lockdown continues, 136 Sqn are making all Cadets and parents/ carers aware of the RAF Air Cadet Association. This is an organisation which directly offers support and assistance to RAF Air Cadets and is there to support cadets during this time.

At the start of 2021, there have been some promotions within the Squadron. We have been in a position to promote 3 Cadets to Corporal rank, and 2 Corporals to Sergeant. Congratulations to those promoted Cadets and the Staff Team look forward to working with, and supporting, them all as they take their next steps in RAF Air Cadet life and career.

February 2021

In February 2021, we will be hosting an Information and Recruitment Evening to allow potential Cadets and parents/ carers to get a fuller understanding of 136 Sqn Cadet Life and experiences. We will also explain how to join the squadron and what life is like as a new cadet; from joining, through enrolment and on to the full experiences and rewards of being a member of the RAF Air Cadets and 136 Sqn. More information about the open evening will be posted on the website and blog. We hope to see you there. Visit the Join 136 page to register for this event.
Over the coming month, the training platform will be upgraded and re-launched as 'RISE & Shine'. The new platform will continue to host the core syllabus content for classifications and blue badges, but it will now include enhanced learning activities and content to make the learning experience stronger. Once RISE & Shine has been fully launched, we will take all Cadets through it and get user accounts confirmed.
The Adult SNCO Team within the Squadron would like to let all Cadets know about a resource which is available on YouTube and supports Cadets in their life and experiences within the RAF Air Cadets and Squadron.
